What Bouldering Taught Me About Building a Business and Life You Love

It might surprise you, but one of the most powerful personal growth tools I’ve discovered lately isn’t a book, a course, or a mindset hack…

It’s bouldering.

Yep – climbing walls (without ropes!) in a giant room full of colourful holds and padded floors has become one of my favourite ways to learn about myself, my limits, and my potential.

But more than that, it’s been a mirror for how I run my business, how I live my life, and how I hold space for growth.

Because the lessons I’ve learned at the climbing wall? They’re the exact same lessons that help ambitious women like you create more freedom, ease, purpose and peace – all while building success that actually feels good.

Let me show you what I mean.

1. You’ll have to fall, fail, and try again – if you want to reach the top

In bouldering, falling is inevitable. You try, you miss, you land on the mat, and then you go again.

In life and business, it’s no different.

So many women I work with feel like they’re failing because they didn’t stick to their plan, because they dropped a ball, or because something didn’t go as expected. But failure isn’t a flaw – it’s part of the process.

Every time you fall, you learn. Every time you get back up, you build resilience. And that’s what gets you to your goals – not perfection.

2. Resilience is the key to progress

You don’t get better at anything by staying comfortable. The only way to grow – in confidence, strength, or skill – is to keep going, especially when it’s hard.

Resilience isn’t about always pushing. It’s about learning to pause, reset, and show up again. That kind of strength is what builds long-term, sustainable success.

3. Frustration is part of the journey

You will have moments where things feel sticky. Where your brain says “this should be easier by now!”

But expecting things to be smooth 100% of the time is a recipe for burnout.

When you accept frustration as part of the process (instead of resisting it), you can move through it with more grace – and less pressure.

4. Other women are not your competition – they are inspiration

One of the most beautiful things about bouldering is seeing someone else crack a route you couldn’t figure out – and instead of feeling jealous, you feel inspired.

Same with business.

That woman who looks like she has it all together? She’s proof it’s possible – not that you’re behind. When we stop comparing and start celebrating, we open up so much more space for our own growth.

5. You are always learning – whether by doing or watching

There’s no shame in being a beginner. There’s no shame in needing to try again. And there’s definitely no shame in learning from others.

Every climb, every launch, every tough conversation or brave decision is a chance to discover something new about what works for you.

6. If one approach doesn’t work, change the route

The goal doesn’t change – but your method might need to.

If what you’re doing in business isn’t bringing results without burning you out… try a new strategy. If your daily routine is draining you… switch it up.

Flexibility is a superpower – and it helps you stay committed to your vision, without being rigid in your execution.

This is also why I prefer to set intentions rather than resolutions – something I share more about in this guide that will help you to set your own powerful intentions (that will actually change your life).

7. Challenge your comfort zone

That fear of failing? Of not knowing how? Of looking like you don’t have it all together?

It’s normal.

But it’s also the edge of your next breakthrough. When you stretch your comfort zone – even just a little – you build more confidence. More courage. More clarity about what you’re capable of.

8. Progress is meant to feel uncomfortable

If you’re not failing, you’re probably not pushing yourself.

I know that sounds intense, but here’s the truth: growth doesn’t come from coasting. It comes from trying things that might not work. Saying yes to the scary thing. Asking for support.

If it’s hard, that doesn’t mean it’s wrong. It means you’re evolving.

9. You can do hard things

And when you do – the sense of pride and satisfaction is next level.

That launch you didn’t think you could pull off? That conversation you’d been avoiding? That moment you chose rest over people-pleasing?

It all adds up to strength. The kind that lasts.

10. You don’t have to do it alone

Asking for help – whether that’s hiring a coach, leaning on your partner, or sharing the mental load – is one of the most powerful things you can do.

Support makes everything easier. Period.

11. What’s hard now will one day feel easy

The things that used to scare you – boundaries, rest, saying no, claiming your space – get easier with practice.

And the things that feel overwhelming or out of reach right now? They’ll feel like second nature soon enough.

12. Rest is productive

Sometimes, the difference between success and struggle is simply… taking a break.

Rest helps your nervous system reset. It helps you get perspective. It reminds you that you are not a machine. You’re a human being, and you deserve to feel good as you grow, stretch that comfort zone, and reach new heights.

13. Celebrate the effort, not just the outcome

Yes, we love a win. But what matters most is how you showed up – especially when it wasn’t easy. That’s where your confidence is built. That’s what gives you momentum.

14. The real challenge is mental, not physical

Climbing a wall might look like a physical test, but really – it’s all about trusting yourself. Believing you can reach that next hold. That your feet will stay. That you won’t fall.

Business and life are the same.

Your mind is your greatest asset – and when you build inner trust, everything becomes more possible. And this is why mindset work is such a vital part of the work I do with all of my clients.

15. Sometimes, you have to take the leap

There are moments when you just have to go for it.

Whether it’s starting a new offer, sharing your story, or taking a step back – there’s no guarantee it’ll work, but if you don’t try, you’ll never know.

You are more capable than you give yourself credit for – but to see that you need to make some bold and courageous moves.

Final Thoughts

Bouldering has become more than a hobby for me. It’s become a mirror – showing me where I need to trust more, try again, step back and refocus, or take a break so that I can try again feeling stronger and more rested (which is usually when I achieve what I thought was impossible!).

It’s helped me remember that success doesn’t come from perfection – it comes from resilience, flexibility, and support.

So if you’re in a season of growth – in business, motherhood, health, or just being a human navigating a full life – know this: You can do hard things.

And you don’t have to do them alone.
