Frustrated and Frazzled to Fully in My Power – In Just 5 Minutes

How I Went from Frustrated and Frazzled to Fully in My Power – In Just 5 Minutes

Have you ever had one of those mornings where everything seems to conspire against you?

You’ve got big plans, high energy, and big expectations for the day ahead… but instead, you wake up groggy, your plans go sideways, and you find yourself muttering through clenched teeth, “Are you actually kidding me right now?”

That was me – two Saturdays ago – on the morning of one of the biggest speaking opportunities I’d had in a while.

The chaos begins

I was travelling 250 miles from home to speak at Womanifest – the UK’s biggest empowerment festival for women and teen girls. It was a huge deal. There was a professional photographer, videographer, and a full tent of women ready to connect, learn, and be inspired.

And do you know what I managed to forget? My toiletries. And my jewellery.

Yep – the stuff that makes you feel put together. Or at least helps me feel put together.

Toothbrush? Nope.

Cleanser? Gone.

Moisturiser? Of course not.

And the jewellery I’d carefully chosen to complement my outfit? Still sitting happily at home, 250 miles away. Now – I had remembered my makeup. And my actual outfit. So it wasn’t a full-on disaster… but I’ll be honest – I was rattled.

Not the energy I wanted to bring

The combination of tiredness (thanks to a poor night’s sleep) and forgotten essentials left me feeling frustrated, under-prepared, and completely out of sync with the energy I wanted to carry into that workshop.

This wasn’t the vibe.

I didn’t want to show up flustered and frazzled. I didn’t want to carry that tight, jangly energy into a space where women were coming to reconnect with themselves and break free from overwhelm.

And I definitely didn’t want to look back later and think, “Ugh, I wasn’t even present.”

So, I gave myself a pep talk – on paper.

A five-minute reset

I grabbed my journal and just started writing.

I know that might sound simple – but more often than not, simple is all you need.

I didn’t try to force myself to feel amazing. I didn’t jump straight to toxic positivity. I just gave myself space to release the frustration, process what was coming up, and remind myself of what really mattered.

Sure, the toiletries and jewellery would’ve been nice to have. (Side note: I did pop to a local supermarket late the night before to grab the basics – because let’s be real, I wasn’t about to turn up with smelly breath or sweaty pits.)

But what I realised as I journaled was this: what was actually needed was ME – in my full essence.

It wasn’t about the accessories or the perfect skincare routine. It was about my energy. My presence. My power.

And the truth is – I didn’t need any of that “extra” stuff to raise my vibe. I could do that with a pen and paper.

Shifting the energy in my body

With my mindset in a better place, I wanted to shake off the tiredness. So I headed to the hotel pool for a swim.

It wasn’t just about the movement – it was about the energy shift. The water felt cleansing and refreshing. It brought me back into my body. Back into my power.

Within minutes, something had shifted.

I felt ready. Re-energised. Alive. Grounded.

And from that place – I headed into the festival site.

Then came the generator…

Now, I’d love to tell you that everything flowed perfectly after that… but life doesn’t always tie things up with a neat little bow.

As I arrived at my workshop tent, I was greeted by a generator. A loud one. Right next to where I’d be speaking.

It would’ve been so easy to spiral. To let the frustration creep back in. To feel defeated by the disruption.

But here’s the thing – I’d already decided how I wanted to show up.

I’d already chosen the energy I wanted to bring into that space. And I trusted that the message would land, generator or not.

And then… magic

The workshop?

It was electric.

I had boundless energy – not forced or performative – but true energy. Vitality. Joy.

And that energy was contagious.

After the session, women came up to me saying it had been life-changing. One woman shared that she usually switches off in workshops (hello ADHD brain), but she was hooked from start to finish.

There was something in the room. And I believe that “something” was the ripple effect of the shift I made that morning.

Because when you shift your energy, you give everyone around you permission to shift theirs too.

I was in my joy, doing work that lights me up – and it radiated.

Even though the content was deep, emotional, and at times heavy, the space felt safe. Expansive. Empowering.

Here’s what I want you to take from this…

I’m not telling you this story because I’ve got it all figured out. I still get tired. I still get flustered. I still have days where it feels like everything is working against me.

But I am saying this:

You don’t have to stay stuck in that energy. You can change your thoughts. You can change your feelings. And by doing so – you can change your entire day (and the day of those you connect with).

And it doesn’t need to take hours of journaling or a weekend retreat. Sometimes… it takes five minutes.

Five minutes to pause. To write. To move. To breathe. To come back to yourself.

So if your day’s been a bit wobbly so far…

Maybe take a moment to pause.

Grab a notebook. Step outside. Move your body. Do something to bring yourself back into you.

Because when you shift – everything else does too.

And I promise – your energy matters more than the jewellery ever did.
