As we step into a new year, filled with fresh energy and big ambitions, I want to take a moment to remind you of something really F’in important:
👉 Your health matters more than your business.
I’ll say it again – your health matters more than your business!
I know the start of a new year can feel exciting. You’ve set your goals, mapped out your plans, and you’re ready to hit the ground running. The drive to succeed is pushing you forward. But here’s the thing:
💡 You are the beating heart of your business.
If you want to thrive – not just this week or next week, but for the long haul – your well-being must be a priority. Without you at your best, your business simply cannot reach its full potential.
Success requires sustainability, and sustainability starts with your health.
Burnout Won’t Get You Where You Want to Go
There will be times when life throws curveballs – illness, stress, unexpected challenges. But if you’re truly committed to the success you say you want, you need to commit to yourself first.
Your health is not a luxury – it’s a necessity.
Yet, I see it all the time (and if you know my story, you’ll know I’ve been there too). The endless pushing, striving, and hustling for that next level – until suddenly, you hit a wall. Your body gives up before your business hits its full potential.
When you nourish and nurture yourself, you show up better for your business. It’s that simple.
Your Health = Your Business Growth
Taking care of yourself isn’t something to squeeze in when you “have time.” It’s something you make time for. Just like you schedule important meetings, deadlines, and strategy sessions, you need to schedule time to look after YOU.
Because you are your most important asset.
And if you’re running on empty, your business will suffer.
At this point, you might be thinking I’m going to tell you to start meal prepping or hit the gym five times a week.
And while those things are great, it’s actually the smaller actions I want you to focus on—the mini wins that build up over time and have a profound impact on your mental and physical well-being.
Things like:
- Taking a break from your desk every couple of hours
- Drinking a glass of water when you feel sluggish
- Closing your eyes for five minutes to reset
- Taking a deep breath before jumping into another task
Listening to What Your Body Needs
Sometimes, the key to thriving isn’t about doing more – it’s about doing less, but doing the things you are doing with intention.
Let me give you an example.
Just before Christmas, I felt a cold creeping in. I had things I wanted to get done – like recording the first episodes of my podcast – but instead of pushing through, I adjusted.
☕ Out came the ginger tea (my go-to for fighting off illness).
📝 When my throat felt sore, I focused on writing instead of recording.
🎙️ And when I had the energy (and the voice!), I hit record.
I listened to my body. I honoured my energy levels. And guess what? I still moved forward.
THIS is health and wellness.
Another time, when things felt heavy in my personal life, I knew I needed a mental reset. So, I took myself on a “mental health walk” to clear my head. I walked to the beach, grabbed a delicious hot chocolate, and allowed myself that space to breathe.
THIS is health and wellness.
THIS is what supports my mind, body, and business.
THIS is what keeps me thriving – without burning out.
What wouldn’t have helped? Forcing myself to stay at my desk, hoping inspiration would strike while my energy tank (physical, emotional and/or mental) was empty.
It’s Time to Make a Change
Your business will not thrive if you are on your knees.
I know this might feel like tough love. But I say it because I care.
Everything I share with you – whether in my podcast, blogs, emails, or coaching – is to help you thrive in life AND in business. Not just get by. Not just “power through.” But to truly thrive.
So, before you click away, I want you to do something for me (well, for yourself actually).
Take a moment to check in with yourself.
Stop what you’re doing. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath.
What does your body need right now? What is it whispering to you?
Maybe it’s telling you to stretch. Maybe it’s asking for rest. Maybe it needs food, water, or a few minutes of quiet.
Now, I want you to give yourself exactly what you need.
Not later. Now.
Because awareness is great, but awareness without action won’t change a thing.
The more you practice listening to your body – and actually responding to its needs – the easier it becomes. And over time, this simple habit will transform how you feel in your body, mind, and business.
