There’s a conversation I’ve been having on repeat lately – with clients, with women in my community, and even with myself.
It’s about the kind of “success” that doesn’t really feel like success at all.
Because if you’ve hit your goals – the income, the growth, the visibility, the KPIs – but you’re completely exhausted…
If you’re overwhelmed, disconnected, running on fumes…
Then I want to lovingly but firmly say: This isn’t success.
This isn’t what you came here for.
This isn’t why you started your business.
And this isn’t the version of life you’ve been working so hard to create.
The Push-Push-Crash Cycle So Many Ambitious Women Are Caught In
It’s a cycle I see all the time. You push hard. You achieve something amazing. You crash. You recover (sort of). Then you do it all again. And again. And again.
Often not even taking a moment to pause and reflect on how far you’ve come, or how F’in amazing you are to create your incredible business alongside the juggle of motherhood.
This pattern can feel incredibly normal, especially if you’re surrounded by others doing the same thing. If all your role models are operating at full tilt, sacrificing sleep and sanity in the name of “more,” it’s easy to assume this is just the way it is.
But we all know that success built on stress is not sustainable. Just because it’s familiar (or what others do) doesn’t mean it’s right for you.
The Hidden Beliefs Keeping You in Overdrive
Underneath the constant striving and doing is something deeper, something quieter – so quier in fact you have to listen really hard to hear it.
Limiting beliefs that whisper:
- “If I’m not constantly doing, I’m falling behind.”
- “If I stop, I’ll lose momentum.”
- “If I don’t hold it all together, everything will fall apart.”
- “If I rest, I’m being lazy.”
- “My worth is in what I achieve.”
These thoughts aren’t random. They’re usually rooted in old stories – often from childhood – where approval, safety, and love were tied to achievement and productivity.
Maybe you learned to be the responsible one. The high achiever. The one who holds it all together. The one who did well at school and got praised for this.
Maybe, without realising it, you internalised the belief that success gets approval but also requires sacrifice – and that your needs don’t matter – because success is the ultimate (and only) goal.
And now, those stories are still running the show.
When Your Nervous System Thinks Hustle = Safety
Here’s where things get even more interesting (and frustrating!)
Even when you know something needs to change…
Even when you want to slow down…
It still feels really hard to do it.
And that’s because your nervous system doesn’t feel safe doing things differently. It likes things to stay just as they are – even though that might feel uncomfortable.
When you’ve been living in a chronic state of hyperarousal – always on, always alert, always striving for the next thing – your body becomes wired for this. That stress response becomes your baseline. It feels normal. And it feels safe.
So when you try to slow down, to rest, to take a step back, it can feel really scary. Like danger. Like you’re doing something wrong.
And your mind – always trying to keep you safe – jumps in with thoughts like:
- “You’re falling behind.”
- “You’re being lazy.”
- “You’re going to mess everything up.”
But this isn’t the truth. It’s your nervous system protecting you from change and the uncertain outcomes associated with that change.
You Can’t Heal Hustle With More Hustle
Let me be crystal clear: you cannot create sustainable success from a state of chronic stress.
You can’t fix burnout by pushing harder. You can’t build a joyful, freedom-filled life when your body is in survival mode.
You need something different. A softer way. A simpler way. A way that honours both your ambition and your wellbeing.
That doesn’t just change how you do business – but how you feel in your life too.
This Is Where SIMPLIFY Comes In
